This compilation of 60 non-calculator puzzles has been designed to help students to improve their calculating skills using mental or written methods. There are 30 crossnumber puzzles of varying complexity, each providing a wealth of practice. They can be used on-screen, with a self-marking facility, or printed out for conventional pen and paper use.
In addition there are 30 number puzzles designed to give a wide variety of engaging practice in arithmetic calculation. Many provide for multiple solutions and the opportunity for exploration through trial and error.
We’ve kept the technology simple. The puzzles run on any PC with Windows 98® or later and Microsoft Excel®. They can be run on a school network and be used with whiteboards.
Puzzles are suitable for students from Year 7 and can provide useful and enjoyable calculating practice throughout Key Stage 3.
